Workways joins community taskforce to help young people prepare for work

Young people at Yarrabilba State Secondary College have received practical support to take their first steps towards employment, thanks to a collaborative effort between local employment and community organisations.

Across eight Resume Taskforce sessions, representatives from Workways Australia and other employment and community organisations worked alongside 190 Year 10 students, providing tailored résumé support to help them prepare for mock interviews and develop practical tools they can use as they move towards the workforce.

Workways Employment Coaches brought their frontline employment expertise into the classroom, working directly with students to help them understand how to present their skills, strengths and experience in a résumé. Stephanie Schoenauer from Workways’ Jimboomba team was among those involved, sharing practical résumé advice and helping students build their confidence as they begin thinking about future career pathways.

The initiative brought together representatives from Workways Australia, APM, TURSA Employment, Logan Foyer, MatchWorks and yourtown, working with Yarrabilba State Secondary College and the Yarrabilba Jobs Exchange. The participating organisations volunteered their time across the program to support local young people.

The Resume Taskforce demonstrates what can be achieved when schools, community organisations and employment services combine their knowledge and resources around a shared goal. For Workways, it was also an opportunity for our Employment Coaches to take the experience they use every day supporting jobseekers and share it with young people who may be preparing for employment for the first time.

The initiative builds on broader collaboration between employment and community organisations in the Yarrabilba and Jimboomba area, where local initiatives have provided jobseekers with practical support including résumé reviews, interview coaching and job-readiness activities.

With the 2026 Resume Taskforce now complete, 190 young people have gained practical skills they can carry forward as they prepare for further study, training and employment
