ParentsNext Success: Caitlin’s Story

Single mother, Caitlin Martin, is living proof that it is never too late to start a new chapter in life. After working in the hospitality industry for 15 years, she decided to pursue a career in floristry, a field that has always brought her joy and peace.

Caitlin’s journey has been full of challenges, from dropping out of university at a young age to support her family to dealing with mental health issues and physical injuries from a car accident. But despite all the setbacks, Caitlin never gave up on her dreams.

The COVID-19 pandemic made it even more difficult for Caitlin to provide for her son and pursue a new career. Daycare was too expensive, and her health conditions, including; PTSD, anxiety and depression, made it hard to work in the hospitality industry. But instead of giving up, Caitlin decided to take the leap of faith and enroll at TAFE Queensland to study Floristry. Workways ParentsNext also utilised funding to purchase Caitlin a laptop so she could complete her course.

It was a scary and uncertain time for Caitlin, but with the support of her Employment Coach Bela and regular therapy and medication, Caitlin was able to overcome her anxiety and pursue her passion for flowers. Each week, Caitlin’s confidence and skills have grown, and shes creating stunning work and looks forward to finding employment.

Caitlin’s story is a testament to the power of perseverance and the importance of following your dreams. Caitlin recently dropped off a beautiful bouquet of flowers to Bela at our Workways office to say thank you for the ongoing support. Caitlin says, “Flowers can speak the words you’re unable to say.”
