How to apply for jobs online vs face to face

Your job application is the first line of contact between yourself and a potential new employer, so it is crucial to give an excellent first impression. Learning about the application process and tips for applying for jobs can help you make informed decisions during this process. Looking for a job can be a daunting task, and with the rise of technology, there are a few ways to apply for a job: online or face to face are the main two. Both options have their pros and cons, and which one to choose depends on personal preference and the nature of the job. In this blog post, we will explore how to apply for a job online versus face to face.

Online Application:

1. Start by researching the company you are interested in working for. Look for job postings on their website, LinkedIn, Facebook jobs pages and job search engines like Seek or Indeed.

2. Read the job description carefully and ensure that you meet the qualifications and requirements before applying (you don’t necessarily have to have ALL the qualifications however having a couple will assist in moving further ahead in the job). Some online job applications have screening questions that you need to answer before submitting your application.

3. Create a tailored resume and cover letter that highlights your skills and experiences that match the job requirements. You can also use online resume builders to create a professional-looking resume, or reach out to our team who have templates available.

4. Fill out the online application form, and make sure to double-check your spelling and grammar before submitting. Most companies require you to upload a copy of your resume and cover letter – make sure they’re addressed to the correct company!

5.Follow up with the company if you haven’t heard back within a week or two. You can send an email or call to check the status of your application.

Face to Face Application:

1. Dress professionally and bring copies of your resume and cover letter. Our team can help you to create these.

2. Research the company and the position you are applying for beforehand, so you can show your knowledge and interest in what they do when discussing with team members face to face.

3. Ask for the hiring manager or human resources representative, and introduce yourself. Be friendly and professional, and express your interest in the position they’re advertising or ask if they have any positions currently available.

4. If you’re asked for information on the spot, answer the interview questions honestly and thoughtfully, and provide examples of your relevant experiences and skills.

5. Ask for best contact details and follow up with a thank-you email/letter or message after the interview/meeting to express your gratitude for the opportunity to connect and reiterate your interest in a position.

Applying for a job online or face to face requires careful preparation and attention to detail. Online applications are convenient and allow you to apply to multiple jobs at once, while face-to-face applications give you the opportunity to make a personal connection with the hiring manager. Ultimately, it’s up to you to decide which method works best for your job search.
