Working with our community

Workways non-profit, community based mandate enables the organisation to assist many community projects with both financial and business assistance. Our regional offices advise of projects and opportunities that arise that may need support; we then evaluate and work with those groups to see how we can assist.

A number of projects are currently being supported by Workways which we feel are important to both the communities and regions that we work within.

Changing Lanes

This program looks to support youth who are experiencing difficulty in the school system.

Workways supports this successful program that re-engages young people who have long-term histories of alienation from school or other forms of education and training. Features of the program that Workways supports include:
  • a sound educational program based upon the Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning
  • participation in an approved VET program
  • work placement
  • breakfast and lunch programs
  • community and workplace mentoring
  • community service
  • safe driver program
  • mechanical workshop opportunities and experience
  • Occupational Health and Safety
Workways has developed a new educational facility in Bairnsdale that provides a base for the delivery of the ‘Changing Lanes’ program. We support and acknowledge the challenging work that is being undertaken.

East Gippsland Multi Purpose Sports Centre Appeal

Recently $75,000 was committed by Workways toward the construction of this facility. The need to upgrade and construct a major all-purpose Sports Centre in Lucknow for the East Gippsland region was seen as a great motivator for the youth and local communities.

Sponsorships of this kind are high on the priority of Workways and this sponsorship embodies all that the Board and Workways as an organisation are trying to promote; that is, regionally based projects that support community.

With 36 employment services offices located regionally across Victoria and South Coast NSW. Workways is a non-profit organisation that continues to support all regions with many sponsorships and funding projects. Workways believes that this project has incredible merit.

It has already been awarded support through Commonwealth, State and Shire funding. The commitment shared by three levels of government with contributions of $980,000 and now the $75,000 committed by Workways, expresses a determination to ensure that the East Gippsland community benefits from this great addition to sporting and recreational infrastructure in our region.

The new facility will benefit the youth and elderly of the region also. It will offer access to table tennis, racquetball and squash facilities at this state of the art facility supporting the ‘keen agers’ organisation far sighted plans. However, it will also promote interest in participation and membership possibilities within community and sporting groups. The opportunity to connect many regional community groups is what this project will ultimately achieve.

East Gippsland as a whole will benefit through engagement of the community and the hope that the community will embrace and take ownership of a great facility. The possibility of an influx of communities and groups from other Shires and sporting groups to utilise facilities is also a potential drawcard of the project.

Connecting communities and promoting activity are all major benefits to be delivered by the East Gippsland Multi Purpose Sports Centre Appeal.
Workways is proud to be a major sponsor in the funding of this great project and will continue to offer its support into the future.
