John HartleyChief Executive OfficerJohn has led the Workways senior management team as Chief Executive Officer since 2007. John joined Workways in 2000, managing the Morwell office and delivered frontline services to clients. John’s background is in Human Resource Management and he holds a Bachelor of Business in Accounting and Management. John has been a part of the leadership team that has overseen the development and growth of Workways over the past decade. As CEO, John led Workways through contractual changes in 2008 and 2009 which saw the organisation increase in size and open a further 11 sites. Workways started in Bairnsdale in 1989 with one office and now has 35 offices across eastern Victoria and southern New South Wales. Born and raised in a small country town, John understands the service needs of regional communities and is proud that Workways services regional communities that previously had little or no local access to employment services. John is passionate about the services Workways delivers to disadvantaged people and communities. John is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD) and the Member of the Australian Human Resources Institute (MAHRI) and is currently a member of the Latrobe Regional Hospital Foundation Board. Trish WhiteEmployment Services ManagerTrish began her association with Workways in 1998, applying for a position with the organisation as a Case Manager. In 1999, Trish was promoted to the position of Site Manager of the Bairnsdale Office and subsequently as Program Manager in 2003. In 2008 Trish commenced her current role of Employment Services Manager, managing the organisation’s Job Services Australia contract. Trish’s employment history includes being a Sales Manager, Pre-School Assistant and she has also owned and operated her own business. Her qualifications include a Diploma of Employment Services, Dual Diploma in Human Resources / Business Management, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment and Diploma of Professional Counselling. Trish is passionate about making a difference to people's lives and it is this passion that drives her commitment to the organisation as well as her involvement in the local community. As well as being Deputy Chair of the Community College of East Gippsland, Trish is an active member of the Bairnsdale Chamber of Commerce and Industy, having held the position of Secretart over a number of years, Secretary of Bairnsdale Soccer Club and a representative of the East Gippsland Regional Business and Tourism Association.
Kylie CoverdaleYouth and Community Program ManagerKylie is fourth generation to the East Gippsland area. Her knowledge of local networks and community connections have proven valuable to Kylie’s role in supporting ‘at risk youth’, Indigenous service and the VET service, the three programs she manages. Previous employment included the Aboriginal Health Industry and also in the Primary School sector of education. Both of these career paths offered extensive experiences in working with young people, parents, community members and supporting disability clients. Her education background included Music teaching, disability supports, The Arts, HR, Administration & Financial Management, Indigenous Services Management and various training in Youth Support and Mental Health. Commencing at Workways in 2003 she assisted newly unemployed clients as a Training & Placement Officer based at the Lakes Entrance site. She greatly enjoyed her position and then embraced a role change when a position as a Career and Transition Co-ordinator became available assisting youth identify their goals and interest to link with career paths and make education work for them. Another job change found her as Program Manager to Youth Service looking after the Jobs Pathway Program which became the Youth Pathways Service looking after Youth at Risk aged 13 – 19yrs. Her experience within the Aboriginal Health Industry and the role grew to incorporate the Indigenous Service and VET team all currently under her management. Kylie has never looked back and still has a passion and commitment to her role that demonstrates pride in her programs and accomplishment she shares with a great team of people she works with. Interests that distract her from work are being connected to family and friends, photography and craft, gardening, reading and spending time with her husband fishing.
John MortonBusiness Services ManagerJohn commenced with Workways in early 2008, and is responsible for all facets of the Information and Communication Technologies, OH&S and Facilities & Fleet for the organisation. John has relished the challenge of reinventing the IT network infrastructure within Workways across all offices in regional Victoria and NSW. John grew up in East Gippsland and returned to Bairnsdale after living in Melbourne for eleven years. Living in close proximity to the Lakes region and the snowy mountains alpine national parks enables John to indulge his passion for outdoor pursuits. Barbara BalintChief Financial OfficerBarbara is a recent convert to the country lifestyle, moving to Bairnsdale to begin the role as Finance Manager in January 2009. Leaving Melbourne behind, the daily commute to work in peak hour traffic is something that has not been missed.With extensive financial management experience in large multinational organisations, Barbara has enjoyed the challenge of a new industry and applying her experiences at Workways. Previously Barbara has fulfilled roles as Chief Accountant, Company Secretary, Senior Business Accountant and Commercial Manager. Barbara is also a qualified CPA. Out of work hours is spent discovering Bairnsdale and exploring the surrounding East Gippsland region that is keeping her captivated.
Margaret HarleyHuman Resources ManagerMargaret's move from Brisbane to Bairnsdale has brought with it the delights of working with people who are dedicated and passionate about contributing to their community. As well its bring her the opportunity to explore the East Gippsland region which is new to Margaret who, after growing up in Sydney, then raised her three sons in Northern NSW where the family built their own mud brick house. Living in regional NSW afforded a great lifestyle and place to bring up children, but as job opportunities were limited a move to Brisbane saw her working in mental health before she commenced work in local government, where she took up a role in human resources. Margaret brings over a decade of work and training in human resources combined with another decade of experience assisting people with disabilities access employment and training. She has qualification and experience in high school teaching, TAFE teaching, workplace coaching, emotional intelligence, personality profiliing and is a career guidance practitioner. In 2005 she was awarded a Doctor in Social Science through the University of Queensland for her studies into corporate social responsibility and employment of young people recovering from drug use. Her co-authored article on the risks to employers in employing affected young people was published in the International Journal of Corporate Citizenship in 2007, She is a strong believer in life long learning, and the untapped potential in each of us. She loves cooking, - especially produce she has grown herself, and for relaxation spends time with her partner and their children. She enjoys yoga, Pilates and swimming to stay fit.
